The last day of school for the 2011-12 school year has been moved from June 5 to June 7, 2012.  Please mark your calendars accordingly.

8th Grade U.S. History
Instructor: Mr. Tarbi
This is a survey class of American History from 1776 to 1914. We use the other Social Science disciplines, Anthropology, Sociology, Archeology, Psychology and Economics to try and understand the story of America.

=====================================

I try and cover a section per day in class. Each chapter has 4 to 5 sections. There is always a day for review before a chapter test. Tests are 40 questions long and are of the scantron type. There is homework assigned every night for this class. I try and not assign homework over the weekend, but sometimes it can't be avoided.  It is the student's responsibility to study on their own time and to know the difference between just reading the material and studying the material. Work book pages will be assigned for each chapter we study in the book.

Concerning Field Trips
There may exist opportunities for some students to participate in field trips or activities beyond school. Altho requirements for each event may vary, in general students will be invited based on excellent behavior and citizenship. Outstanding students are those who show a hightened interest in their academic subjects, a passion for learning, regular and enthusiastic participation in class, demonstrate a positive and helpful attitude, are kind and respectful of others, pay attention, follow direction, maintain good attendance, and exhibit mature and responsible behavior... even when I'm not looking.
Concerning testing
If you are absent on a scheduled test day, you may be asked to take an essay make-up test.

State Standards & tests
Please note that all tests and quizzes now reflect the state standards for California. Each section in the book has the standards it addresses printed at the beginning of the section. Once the student has read the material, they should go back and see if they can answer the standards based questions.  If they can't, then they need to go back over the material. NOTE: The common assessment tests, the district mid-term and final along with the STAR tests are all standards based tests.
